Becoming a New Kind of Christian

When things begin to go wrong it is easy to get caught up in a cycle of despair. Bad news easily feeds on bad news.

We live in a world where TV survives on bad news. It seems the worse the news gets the more people will watch it. The more they will read it. What is it about us that cling to bad news?

It is the “But then’s….” In life that can destroy us. What do we do “Then?”

The old answers don’t seem to work anymore. The “it will get better soon,” but it doesn’t. And the “it can’t get any worse,” but it does. And the “God won’t give you more than you can handle,” but you are sure that he has. What then….

I believe that what the world needs to see is a new kind of Christian. A different kind of community of faith and for the next few months that is what we will be discussing.

This new kind of Christian isn’t really new at all. I think the problem is we’ve missed the point for way too long.

Jesus’ life was not free from suffering; it was not free from pain. He lost loved ones, he was misunderstood, and his motives were questioned by men not nearly as righteous as Him. He said prayers that were not answered as he wanted them to be. But in spite of his sorrows he loved the unlovely, he helped the helpless, gave hope to the hopeless, he partied with sinners, and he changed the world.

God wants us to do that again.

What is Hope's Journey?

What is it?

Hope’s Journey is an experiment. It is an attempt to become an authentic community of faith. Where people love one another with the love they are discovering in God; where people experience freedom to “be themselves” as they grow to become “new people” with “new” friends.

Hope’s Journey truly is a journey. It is a great adventure that several of us have decided to take together and we want to invite more to come along.

Life sometimes is tough. We get thrown unexpected surprises that can drain our hope. But God is the God of Hope and we are his people. We are a people of Hope.

Hope's Journey Begins

Luke Pollock and several friends will be starting a new bible study and devotional on Sunday evenings beginning April 19, 2009. It will be an informal gathering with food and music along with discussions and thoughts shared by Luke and his friends. New River Community Church has agreed to allow us to use their building at 3464 Fairburn Rd, Douglasville, GA 30135. We plan to meet from 4:30 p.m. till 6:00 p.m. beginning Sunday April 19th.

We plan to use the time to get to know one another or to get reacquainted. The kids can play, there is a great playground at New River and there will be adult supervision. Nursery will also be provided for kids under 5.

Life is a Journey. So join Luke, Britt, Beanie, Jon, Clint, Faith, Jerald, Marie, Jimmy, and Jill along with our children as we start a new journey together in Douglas County. Our goal is to enjoy the Hope found in Jesus as we journey together through life. Our goal is to enjoy the journey together through the ups and downs life brings our way. We hope to see you there.
